Stella Nova, Copenhagen South Metro Station 2024
København Syd metro station features an astronomical clock showing key elements of the solar system: the Sun, Mercury, Venus, the Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. The extinct super nova Stella Nova as well as the black hole in our home galaxy, the Milky Way, are also featured. A computer-controlled cursor system makes sure that the astronomical elements mirror their actual positions on the sky above the station and the city of Copenhagen. The clock is framed by the zodiac circle while the title, Stella Nova, is a nod to Renaissance astronomer Tycho Brahe. The entire station is clad in large terracotta tiles, showcasing a seven colour gradient ranging from Black Blue to Sky Blue, providing the passengers a distinct evening sky sensation. Travelling is all about time – catching the train, waiting for the train, arriving in time. The astronomical clock connects this concept of time with the cosmic journey we all have all embarked on. ️Stainless steel and steel, gold, palladium, copper and pigments, 438 x 438 x 42 cm.
